FRIES!!!
I live a block or so away but have really just been in for the cheap pizza Tuesdays- which are great- but today partner and I had lunch. Pico burgers, split a great caesar salad, and it was all good (including the Erdinger Weiße) but oh man the high point were those fries- holy Christmas, just amazing amazing fries. I could have eaten a bucket. I was thrilled to see that for lunch the music is chill and not deafening and the crowd isn't douchebag meathead. NIce neighbourhood pub for grownups. I'll be back- many times.
Live, Love, Laugh, EAT!!!
Friday night James and I went to 1410 for dinner followed by a birthday celebration for one of my girlfriends, Laura, at Classic Jacks. It seems like it's been a long time since James and I have had a night on the town together. Normally I am out for Foreplay Friday with the ladies or we will opt for a quiet night in with some vino. We had an awesome time and 1410 rarely disappoints for its reasonably priced, delicious fare and fantastic service. 1410 is located at 1410 17th Avenue SW right beside the McDonalds and is a great place to view sporting events or people watch. 1600 World Bier Haus and Classic Jack's are all owned by the same company- great group of bars if you ask me! Here is what we had:

Going The Extra Mile
Posted on February 6, 2011 by Cindy Needham at get coached
Today you are going to be asked four questions that will lead you to a call of action.
What comes to your mind when you hear the words “going the extra mile?”
Going the extra mile can mean very different things to different people. To me it means giving 100%, making sure that all needs are being met. To go above and beyond the call of duty.
I also associate the concept of going the extra mile to the service industry. When I am purchasing something, whether it be a meal, clothes or a big-ticket item, I want good service. I rate that service by how the individual treats me. How much money I spend often determines the level of service I expect. If I get more than I expect then I am blown away. I am blown away because that individual made me feel special. Even though it was for a moment, and I was paying for it, I had someone go out of their way, above the call of duty, to make sure my needs were met.
Lindsey Smilski who works at the 1410 Bier Haus in Calgary is a perfect example of someone going the extra mile (GEM). Within a couple of minutes of us sitting, she came over with a huge smile, introduced herself, and made us feel like we were the most important people in the restaurant. In fact, you can tell by the way she interacted with the guests at all her tables, that they too felt important.
When we commented on how great our beer was, Lindsey took it upon herself to see if she could find out where in Red Deer we might find it. As it turned out, Lindsey had trouble finding a vendor and enlisted the help of her manager to locate one. Cory Lowe came over and introduced himself to us, explained that there were no vendors in Red Deer who carried that particular beer, and then told us about an amazing store called ZYN in Calgary where we could pick it up. This was all done during the busy “noon hour” rush. Not only were we treated well with good food and service, Lindsey and Cory blew us away with their initiative and desire to make our experience extraordinary.
I am a GEM (go the extra mile) with my coaching and massage clients. While they are in my care, I give 100% plus. I want my clients walking out the door feeling valued and cared for.
From a professional stand point, going the extra mile (GEM) is pretty clear. Someone pays me, I give over the top, great service, and I feel good about myself at the end of the day knowing that I made a difference in someone’s life.
Because of the extra effort that I put in, I am continually blessed with great clients, therefore I am able to make a living doing what I enjoy best. I truly believe the abundance that I receive is directly related to the effort I put in.
Do you go the extra mile in your personal life?
With myself, there are some areas that I can answer with a resounding yes. There are also areas that I can answer with a definite NO. Why is that?
For me, the simple answer, is that it has become easier not to. At the end of the day, after giving 100% to everyone else, it’s just easier to put myself, and my partners needs to the side. It’s easier to forgo my work out. It is easier to only half listen to my partner.
Is that working for me?
Based on the results in these life areas, No. It might have for a while, but not any more.
When I think about it, how can it work? Does a car drive efficiently with 50% air in its tires? Can a plane land safely with only 50% of its landing gear working? Can we survive if our heart worked only 50% of the time? NO, NO, and NO!
What can I do different?
Well, now that I am aware of how I am showing up, I can consciously choose to have different results in those life areas. Instead of just mumbling “uh huh” to my partner when she asks me questions, I can take a moment and actually listen and acknowledge her from my heart. Instead of feeling stiff and sore from working on the computer and sitting too much, I can take the time to stretch and strengthen my body on a regular basis.
When I am giving 100% plus (being a GEM), and getting amazing results I feel very empowered. I have the ability, to feel that way all the time, if I choose to. There is no reason why I can’t. Giving 100% and going the extra mile doesn’t mean perfection. It means doing the best I can, with what I have, at that time. All I need to do is check in with myself and ask some simple questions. Do I have more in me? What will it take for me to be a GEM?
Imagine the results that you can achieve in all of your life areas by giving 100% and “going the extra mile.”
Live well,
Cindy Needham
Ladies night out
A few of us girls went out for drinks one Saturday and we ended up at 1410 not knowing that "ladies night" was happening. We were greeted by the front door with smiles and a glass of complimentary bubbly. As we waited for a table, sipping on our bubbly, we were offered complimentary chocolate covered strawberries. Yes please! We were thrilled. The special menu and drink specials for Saturday night "ladies night" was great. We thoroughly enjoyed our beverages, food, people watching, and live DJ pumping a mix of retro hip hop, dance, R&B and oldies. A very fun evening indeed!

Great New Look
Great new look, some touches of Jacks with the same 1410 charm. Tidy staff, great mussels. January 16, 2010
WOW!
Wow what a nice lounge sports bar on 17th. The exterior is even attractive, with very sleek wooden design mixed with urban chrome. The one whole side of the bar has an open window concept and it looks like some parts of it slide open like a garage door to accommodate a patio setting in the summertime.
The day that I went the place was packed by tons of guys and as soon as sat down I could see why; the place is lined with huge LCD televisions and overly attractive wait staff. This is obviously a place you can buy a good brew or two or ten, because many were enjoying the sports visuals and drinking an assortment of shades of beer.
The place inside is really modern, high stools, very streamlined and High-Tec and they have a fantastic menu selection. My friend had some Chinese Potsuckers that according to her were spicy yet delicious and I dove into a Turkey Wrap complete with fresh strawberries and Brie cheese! Included with my Wrap came two side options and I choose the yam fries and a Cesar, all this for 12, pretty reasonable I thought, and incredible tasty.
Service was great, the waitress and the host were very friendly and there is a nice casual relaxed feeling when you come here that really helps to enjoy your meal. So not your average sports bar, more of an uber space bar... well worth the visit. 31st January 2010
AWESOME
I love this restaurant. Everytime I go the experience is Awesome! Very great service, the portions are always generous and taste good. As well, we are huge beer fans, so it's a nice atmospere to go and try something out of the ordinary. July 2009
